HIGH COMMmISSiONER'S REPORT The High Commissioner's market report from London under date 11th inst., states.: — , The market is rather quiet. There has been less demand for all descriptions of frozen meat during the week. Mutton.—Canterbury, 7|d per ">. There is a small supply of North Island, but it is not quoted; ewes, fair ' demand, sfd. Lamb—Ther e is a poorer demand for lambs owing to the large supply of- Scotch; Canterbury ewes B£d, heavy weights fours 7-fd, ' second class quality Bd, other thafl Canterbury 8 l-16d for best quality light weight. Beef—Of New Zealand, there is only inferior quality for sale, hinds 6id, fores 6d, chilled hinds BJd, fores 6|d. / Butter.—The market as very firm, i Prospects are favourable for New Zealand creamery Butter, and there is every prospect of the high prices ruling being maintained till the end of the year at least. Danish per cwt. 174 sto 1765. Siberian 134 sto 138 s, Irish creamery 157 sto 160 s and 162. | Cheese.—The market is firm at the i advance. Canadian finest white and I colored per cwt 76s to 775, fine 74e to J 765, English- cheddar 945, New ZeaI land 75s to 76s and 775, United Staj tes finest 70s to 74, good fine grades 64 s to 68s. Hemp.—The market is quiet, but ; present quotations are (New Zealand) October to December shipment good fair grade (per ton) £33, . Highpoint fair £32. Highpoint £3l. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO., LTD. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, 31st we held our weekly sale of springing, heifers aid cows. We had a fair entry of 5'5 lioad, of which we placed 39 .head, included in' wh'.cli were a nice line of pedigree Ayrshire heifers. Cattle of good quality and close to profit find buyers at good prices, but small j; own, low conditioned, and backward r orts are neglected. : Ayrshire cows. £6 • ]ss to £7, Ayrshire heifers, nice-line, [ 13 head, made £7 7s, and a small line ! bl' six of the same breed made £5, I good heifers £7 17s 6d to £B, later £7 to £7 ss. Our next springing heifer s. le will lie held on Tuesday, 14th in it. . ■ ■ 1 On Tuesday, 7th September, we . 'd our usual fortnightly, stock, dairy nil pig sale in our Stratford yards. \\*3 had a good entry of 704 store, cattle, 26 sheep, 77 dairy heifers and i g vs and 18 pigs, and effected a good clearance to a large attendance of tbo public, at the following prices:— Good store cows are in better demand, and made from £6 2s to £7 17s, medium sorts £5 to £6, aged and poor £2 18. s for small to £4 17s for larger grown, fat cows from £8 to £8 19s, prime fat cow* £lO 13s to £l2 7s 6d, empty heifers (small) £4 to £5 10s for more bulky sorts, yearling heifers,good lines from £2 5s to £2 15s, medium quality 37s to 435, poor and small 295, 18 months heifers, more in demand from 58s to 73s for, good lines, 18 months steers £3 8s 6d to £3 18s 6d, yearling steers (small) 50s, 2 year steers 98s, 3i year steers, good line, £9 2 S 6d, bulls (small) 655, well grown £7 5s to £7 Bs, weaner pigs 18s to 19s. In our dairy yards we had .a fair 'sale, but the quality was not so gpod as usual, small teaters predominating. Good heifers, calved, up to £9, well grown, good sorts'£7 10s to £8 10s, late calving £7 to £7 2b 6d,, medium quality £6 5s to £6 17s 6d, 2 year olds £5 10s to £6 10s, showing quality. Since we last reported we have placed a good deal of stock privately as follows:—Yearling heifers 32s 6d to 465, empty heifers (18 months) 665, 2 year steers 90s to 100 s, yearling steers 61s, store cows (small) 70s to 90s, medium 955, fair £5 10s, good £5 17g 6d, dairy cows (medium) £7 to £B, good line £l2 10s, 3 year old bullocks (good) £9 15s and £8 10s, hoggets (medium) 15s to 18s, fair 20s to 20s 6d, good 21b to 225, ewes in lambs (fair) 25s 3d, poor 17s to 18s 6d, dogs 20s to 21s.
