THE WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND
[To The Editor Stiiatvoud Post.] Sir,—l-- crave permission 4o draw the attention of your readers to what .1 consider a thoughtless action on tho part of the local Ladies' Patriotic Committee, in proposing to run an afternoon tea tent in aid of our Wounded Soldiers at' the forthcoming fixture of the A. and P Association. Yon will agree that the Wounded Soldiers' Fund is indeed worthy of outmost Joyal support, but if such Support is to be derived from the displacement - of local trade then such loyalty and patriotism is, I think, much warped. There can be no doubt but. that the catering fraternity has suffered in the twelve .months owing to the amount of thrift various institutions have been compelled to practise. I know of a case where between £'GO and £7O worth of plant Ims been for months lying idle in anticipation, of the forthcoming show, as the owner's financial "white hope," but. this is now threatened, figuratively speaking, to be cut to pieces and a .permanent loss will result. In conclusion, sir, I sincerely hope the Ladies' Committee will see the wrong course they are. inadvertently taking, which, I feel sure, is entirely due to their great zeal for our Wounded Soldiers'-, Fund,-'a.nd having realised the position, will I refrain from i raising money', in the suggested manlier. 'I feel certain if the tea-tent t scheme is carried out, it .will considerably hamper our sympathisers towards this noble fund.—l.lam, etc., PATRIOTIC.
