The final of the Primary Schools’ football championship was played at Victoria Park to-day, when the contesting teams were Stratford and Waitara. The members of the Waitara team were much heavier than the Stratford hoys, hut the latter showed more science and the game resulted in an easy win for the local team. Tries were scored by McCulloch (21, AY. Grubb ami F. Collins. Mr Campbell Jackson was the referee. By their victory in this match, Stratford, still holds the Shield, which has been in its possession for the last five years. The opportunity afforded the public, of buying vegetables and preserves for • the Sunday dinner from a patriotic market attracted a large crowd of town and country folk to “The Market” being held to-day in the C.B.A. Buildings, Broadway, by Mesdames Skoglund and .Malone. There is on sale, vegetables, preserves, home-made jam. cakes, sweets, flowers and ranch other produce. The “market” will be kept open to-night, so that all tliei stock may he disposed of. The guess-.; ing competition—number of peas in a bottle—for which Mr Fred Foley, of His Majesty’s Theatre, has 1 donated a three months’ ticket of admission to Iris picture palace, is commanding considerable attention of the customers, and the winner will indeed he a lucky/ person. The promoters of “The Mar-| ket” wish to thank the Boy Scouts for j their help in collecting the produce j donated, also Mr Wake for the loan of j the building for the day. j The Ladies’ Patriotic Committee have otained the services of two firstclass performers for the wounded soldiers’ concert to he held on AVednesday evening next in the Town Hall. Airs P. Nathan, of Wellington, will provide several novel items in a manner in which is guaranteed to charm her hearers. Airs Nathan is one of AVellington’s leading artists and entertainers.
