VON PFLANIER FAILS TO CROSS THE STRYPA. United Press Association. (Received 1.46 P-™-) Petrograd, September 1. Details of the defeat of General von Pflansser show that some of the hardest fighting was on the Bug « e « r Bailvkameii, ten miles south-west of Binsk. The enemy on Sunday morning essayed to storm Height'B66. All the attacks were, repulsed. The Aus-trn-Germans were reinforced in the night, and delivered five separate assaults, which were repulsed with vei\ heavy loss. Nevertheless,- three further attacks before dawn were beaten back with enormous losses. Meanwhile Von Pftanzer attempted to force the passage of the Strypa,..but was driven buck, and thus enabling the /Russians on Monday to resume the offensive and surround a portion of the Austro-German forces where the Hoga-ten-Tarnopol railway crosses the Strypa, capturing guns and. many pnsone’rs. The enemy on Sunday made five attempts to crossfire Strypa near Burkanon, : ten ,• miles south ot the railway. All were repulsed. Attacks south of the Dneister were made, also without result.
