In the • House to-day, replying to questions, Ministers said "that the matter of permitting the exportation of oats for other than defence purposes was now under consideration ; that if largely increased prices were being demanded for kerosene, petrol, spirit, etc., steps would he taken to prevent the people being exploited; that only articles touched upon by the amended tariff were now subject to increase, and other increases would come into force when the Act I tearing upon the matter was that the Government was not aware 50:000 cases of kerosene were stored by one firm in Wellington, and they would he glad to hear of any instances of exploitation; that if money was available the Government intended to largely increase the expenditure for pro\ iding homes for workers. WAH FUNDS HILL. The War Funds-Bill was introduced by Governor's message and lead a first time. 'The measure is intended to provide for administration of funds subscribed by the public f or war purposes. FINANCIAL MEASURES. The New Zealand Loans Anuuduicul Bill and the Public Revenues Amendment Hill were reported from committee without amendment, read a thild time and passed. PRACTICE OF KING'S COUNSEL. In committee on the Law Practitioners' Amendment Hill. .Mr Hindmarsh moved to prohibit King's Counsel practising lis soli.-iters. bus this was lost on a division by 32 to is. Another amendment, milking the proposal not to apply to exist-in.': K.C's. was carried by 25 to 22. and tie- proposal that the new clause be added to the Hill was carried by 27 to 21. The. House then adjourned until Tuesday.
