The Federal authorities prohibited the shipment of sixty thousand carcasesfof meat loaded by the State Government For imperial purposes-. The Commonwealth further assigned a portion of the cargo for use in Victoria. Mr Black telegraphed the CommonWealth that as the meat belongs to the Imperial authorities, they intend to ship' iu accordance with the!? agreement. Mr Black threatens to issue writ Tor damages against the Comnjiimvealth if it persists iji commandeering Imperial meat for Victoria. The Government has ordered, the manufacture of ten machine guns at the Walshiland works. Melbourne, Auvgust 28.
In the House, Mr Spence introduced a Hill to increase the interstate telegraphic rate, also newspaper rates, for
magazines,reviews,serials, newspapers, and catalogues printed and published outside Australia. The rate will lie increased from a half-penny for four ounces to a halt-penny lor two ounces. .Mr Hughes stated that tbo .agreement with the Gibbs-Bright Company and the Elder-Smith Company with iclgard to wheat shipment included a chartering remuneration of four-pence per ton instead of a commission a t five per cent., which is returnable to the Commonwealth; The fee will be paid to firms, subject to revision j.fter hall" a million, tons have been chartered.
