Private J. Hart. who has. been spending a lew weeks holiday in Stratford, returned to Camp by the mail train this morning. Mr George Hunter has appointed non-commissioned officer for the Bth Reinforcements 'and leaves Stratford 'on Monday week, Mr Myerscough; Trinity College. London, has .linished ..examining the pupils in the town districts, and is at jpreseu^jougagecl,in e^aiuiahig, the girjs of the Stratford Convent. : .
Sergeant H. Dewar, who has been killed jii- ( was \ve,llj Stratford. He was a prominent footballer, representing Stratford, Taranaki and New Zealand in California. He was tremendously popular among footballers who will miss him greatly.
Private H. («. Fearon mentioned in to-day's casualty list wa s a brother to Mr W. B. Fearon, manager for Newton King- at Kaponga, formerly secretary of the A. and P. Association. Stratford. Jimnm as he was familarly known, was a well .known member of. the Startford Football Club and was liked by all. Private Fearon loft New Zealand with the Main Body, and his death .will be regretted by all.
The Stratford Fire Brigade paraded in full uniform last evening in re<j)W , t to the memory of late -Fireman C,L; -o Kennedy who has heen killed in action. Captain. Grubb-spoke jn eulogistic terms of the ability and worth of the late Fireman Kennedy who was a fine member and a good citizen. •After the Captain's address, the bell was tolled for a quarter of an hour, the firemen present standing ■ t attention. Fireman Kennedy was one. of nine brigadesmen to volunteer and the first to fall. An enlarged photograph of him is to be hung in theStation.
