NEWTON KING’S REPORT.

At Waiwakaiho, on Friday, the

13tli instant,, 1 had a very heavy yarding, the best that has been seeii at these yards for some considerable time. Buyers were numerous and bidding good, all lines being cleared at the following prices: Jersey yearling heifers (good) up to £2 13s 6d, grade ■yearling heifers (well grown) £2 to £2 Ills, smaller 24s 6d to 37s Gd, good •yearling steers £3 8s to £3 11s Gd, rough £2 10s to £2 15s, small 39s Gd to £2 Is, good line of 2 year old empty heifers £4 2s, fair £3 7s to £3 I2s Gd, 2 year steers £5 7s, aged store cows (good framed) £4 2s Gd to £4 12s Gd, light framed store cows £3 KJ.s to £4 ss, fair store cows £4 18s Gd to £5 16s, forward eows £G 12s to £7 Is, 'bulls £G 12s Gd to £9, hoggets 17s to 19s Gd, ewes and lambs £l. Mr J. W. West’s dairy cows were a mixed line, selling up to £l2, averaging £7 15s. Mr Harper Lepper’s cows sold at from £7 to £l2 ss. Dairy cows on account of other vendors realised from £6 10s to £lO, "springing heifers up to £9 15s, and from £1 os to £7 12s Gd for 2 year olds, cows in calf made from £4 5» to £6 12s Gd. On Monday, for the clearing sale at Mr King’s Barret Road farm there was a large attendance, buyers being present from all parts of the province. The cows were all Holstein, and those showing well down in calf met with great competition, selling up to £l7 15s for the best, but a good number were late culvers (no dates being available), and the average for the herd of £ll 4s Gd was a- very good one. Threequarter cows sold up to £7, empty cows £4 10s to £d ss, yearling heifers £2 6s, yearling bulls £2 4s to £5, farm horses £2l 10a to £35, 3 year Holstein springing heifers £9 to £lO 10s. On the same day at Douglas, 1 had a full yarding, of which the majority was cleared at the hammer at the following prices : —Yearling heifers 3Gs, small 22s and 235, yearling steers £3 Is, rough £2 os Gd to £2 7s, 2 year steers £3, Jerseys aud rough £3 IGs to £4 12s, 2J year steers £G 7s, good 2 year empty heifers £4, fair 20 month empty heifers £3 to £3 Bs, store cows £4 is to £4 17s, fat cows £8 6s to £9 10s, hoggets 20s sd, culls 8s Gel to 10s 3d, 2 and 4 tooth ewes in lamb 27s Gd, f.f.m. ewes in lamb 255, f.m. ewes in lamb 22s to 22s Gd, cull ewes 14$ Gd to 16s Id, fat sheep 26| Gd, fat ewes 2Gs and 275, rams 10s oil to -os 9d, store and forward wethers 27s lid, spring- , ing cows £o 12s Gd to £6 2s Gd, 3 year springing heifers up . to £0 10s, smaller £3 17s Gd to £o los. At Stratford yards on Tuesday, the 17th iust., there was a full yarding, buyers being present in good numbers, a very satisfactory sale resulting. A feature of the sale wa*> the yarding of several pens of 2j to 3| year wellconditioned steers, the quality and breeding of which were very favorably commented upon, as it is seldom that such good cattle are seen nowadays. Competition was keen, aud although two pens did not reach the owner’s reserves, the whole of the grown cattlewere cleared during the day. Trices: Good yearling heifers £2 10s to £2 17s, fair 30s Gd to 38s, empty 2 year heifers £3 7s to. £3 12s, small yearling heifers £1 to £1 8s 6d, yearling steers £3 7s 6d, fair £2 16s to £3 Is, light store cows £3 16s to £4 Bs, fan- store cows £4 13s Gd to £5 4s, .good stores from £5 10s to £7 16s for cows carrying a little condition, light fat cows £9 2s, fat 2 year Jersey heifers £5 18s, fat heifers £7 17s to £8 18s, stags £4 9s, 2 year steers £4 10s to £5 18s, forward three year steers £-11, good conditioned 2i to 3 year steers £8 19s, small hoggets 16s Gd, f.m. owes in lamb 20s Gd. In the dairy yards I had a good entry, for which there was good inquiry, anything forward and showing good quality .selling very readily. Good heifers sold up to £ll, but the smaller and backward sorts were hard of sale, making from £4 15s to £6, dairy cows made from £5 10s to £9 and £ls for one choice Jersey cow, if-cows made £4 15s, the 61 head sold averaging £7 7s. At Stony River on Wednesday, the 18th, I had a good yarding, which met with good competition at tiie following prices: Jersey yearling heifers £2 4s, mixed yearlings 34-s to 375, small 2Gs to 295, empty 2 year heifers £3 16s and £3 17s Gd, empty 18 month heifers £3 2s to £3 9s, yearling steers £3 2s Gd, rough £2 7s Gd to £2 12s, springing heifers (good) up to £9,, others (mostly small) £4 to £6 10s, dairy cows £7 os to £lO, fat cows £8 17s Gd to £9 los, store and forward cows £4 18s to £? os, light store cows £3 Is to £4 7», young ewes and lambs 30s, hoggets 18s Gd, slip pigs £1 is to £1 7s Gd, f.m. ewea in lamb 225.
