STRATFORD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. At tin. l meeting of the Committee last night, there were present: .Messrs P. Skoglnnd (chairman). At . .McDonald, F. j). McDonald. It. At. Hancock. S. AVard, T. C. Fookes, J. McMillan, and H. Sanderson. On Mr Skoglund’s motion, it was decided that the secretary of the Committee write to the Director of education. applying for the registration of the crest and colors won hy the school cadets. .Air William Lander, hon. sec. Stratford Home Defence Corps, wrote as follows: i am instructed hy my committee to offer the sendees of the Home Defence Corps to assist in procuring suitable uniforms to he worn hy the hoys of the Drum and Fife Hand belonging to the school. My committee find that it would perhaps he encouraging to the hoys to inrther their efforts in bringing their band to a state of efficiency.”

In discussing the oiler. Hr McMijlaii snid that members ol’ five or six school hands in Dunedin had uniforms and the hoys looked very smart in them. He said that if the hoys were provided with uniforms they would take more pride in their work and it would tend to make the hand hotter as a whole. One pound each would he enough to pay for tin* nnilonns, .Mr McMillan also mentioned that at the present time there were twenty-live hoys in the hand and more were being trained. The idler was accepted with thanks. Mr McMillan, member of the Visiting Committee, reported that .the school grounds were in good order. He said he thought it woidd he a good idea to have skylights put in the gymnasium instead of windows. There are twenty-one panes of glass broken at the present time. Mr McMillan recommended the committee to ask the Kdncation Hoard to erect skylights in place of the windows; and his motion: “That the Kdncation Hoard he asked to erect sufficient skylights to light the building" was adopted, i Mr Hancock referred to the planting ol trees around the school fence, and it was decided to ask the Board to provide suitable plants, I
