BRITAIN’S MUNITIONS.

SHELL TO CARRY 25 MILES.

United Press Association New York, August 20

The Tribune publishes a statement, ( attrihuted to a recent arrival in Fng--1 land, to explain the delay of the Bri--1 tisli advance, to the effect that Lord Kitchener is waiting to launch a great surprise, in the shape of new guns and a new type of shell which, it is believed. will revolutionise military oporations, and make the path to Berlin more possible. The combined efforts of British chemists have been directed to the invention of a shell which is unquestionably more powerful than any now in use. Finally, a 17-inch gun has been produced to suit the purpose of a hew shell, and experiments have proved successful. It is believed that the shell will carry 2d I miles, and work havoc on a scale hitherto unprecedented, and the result may soon lie apparent. t ' *11;> IF. J ! 1.0 hr y ''
