A communique states : Our attack made ns masters of the junction of the Bethune-Arras and Abiain-Angres roads, where the German position formed a salient in our front line. Wo repuhed several enemy counter-at-tacks. Our artillery overcame the German batteries and bomb-throwers near La Fontaine Anx Charmes. There was violent continuous fighting at. Lihge summit. We captured another trench on the crest of Schratzanell, making prisoners of a number. FRENCH SUCCESSES CONFIRMED , (Received 12.45 p.m.) Amsterdam, August 19. A German communique admits French success between Angres and Souohez. and also temporary successes at Lingekopf.

The French are masters of the cross road on the route of the BethuneArras and on the Ablain-Angres line, where the (lerman position formed a salient with the French advanced line's. Several enemy counter-attacks were repulsed. German grenade and petard attacks were prepared by a near bombardment, but were repulsed north of Carleul. There was a violent cannonade on the sectors between the Aise and the Aisne. Violent lighting occurred in the Vosges on the summit of Binge. A new German trench on the crest of Sell rat/,maennelle \m captured.
