The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 1915. THE PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

Tlu> report of the Stratford Patriotic Committee, which covers tlie operations of tliiit body since August 10th, 1911. is especially interesting at this time. When the public meeting was called •! year ago to discuss what should lie done, few of ns realised the terrible struggle with which the Kmpire was confronted, or would have believed'that after a year of most savage lighting and heroic sacrifice we should still he far from the end of the world’s' greatest war. Looking hack to-day we can at least say that this tiny corner of our great Km pi re has done its duty to the best of its ability. Stratford has sent some of her finest sons to the battle ground, and some ol them have given their lives for their country’s sake. As the report shows the Patriotic Committee has done excellent work, and if the methods adopted have not been quite so theatrical as some ol our friends may have deemed necessary, the results attained prove that the work , was on very good lines. 1 (inching on the call ol duty the report strikes a high note in the call to make the best sacrifice we may. individually and collectively. 'I he danger ol divided effort through a lack of unity in dealing with the raising and distributing of funds for the soldiers and their dependents who may require assistance is properly relerred to, and the report rightlv stresses the necessity ol organisation of effort and unity of control to obtain the best results. At the forthcoming meeting we may expect to hear some valuable expressions of opinion regarding the work which laces the Committee that the meeting is expected to elect and therefore, I rum every, standpoint, a very big attendance is desirable.'
