ROUNDING UP THE SHIRKER.
United Puess Association (Received 8.45 a.m.) Sydney, August 18. A number of country recruiting associations' have notified Mr Holman (Premier) that apathy and lack of enthusiasm in regard to recruiting arc prevalent in the country districts. One association says that- the sooner the authorities coldly face the inevitable and compel the shirker to do his part the sooner the war will end.

A verdict of suicide was returned on Brack. His partner. Thompson, gave evidence that a charge against the firm of attempting to trade with the enemy had been pending since January. and this worried deceased. A Domain orator namedW Quinton was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment on a charge of making state*ments prejudicial to recruiting, and he was,,order'd to find sureties for a hundred pounds, and to refrain from similar statements during the war. A (human named .Wilhelm Bains, on a charge of attempting to contravene the War Precautions Act, by attempting to depart by the .Makura without permission, and also that, with being an alien enemy, he adopted an assumed name, was sentenced to six months’ hard labor on each charge.
lOrnest Briemiel. a Swiss, on a charge of aiding Bahrs, was sentenced to three months.
