AN EFFECTIVE SCHEME.
Pek P«ess Assooiat n)N. Wellington, August 16. A statement has been published .in a number of newspapers to the effect that the .compilation of the national register will be directed by the Hon. A. M. Myers (Minister of Munitions and Supplies). It is true that very important work in relation to supplies for the Defence Department will be supervised by Mr Myers, but the administrative duties in connection with the national register are among the Prime Minister’s responsibilities. Every care Avil! be taken to obtain the necessary information promptly, reliably, and economically. It is understood that the methods will be an improvement on the Australian scheme, which depends upon proclamation, and people are summoned to register themselves, subject to a penalty for non-compli-ance. Here, more effective measures will be taken to ensure a proper response to the Government’s request for ’personal'information and other facts.
