THE LAST STAND. DEFENCE OF CONSTANTINOPLE. United Press Association. (Received 8.30 a.in.) [ ypw; York, August 12. The United Press correspondent who visited Turkey says that the Turks continue feverish preparations for-their last stand at Constantinople. The best German genius has perfected the defences in the west and north, and the Russian landing from the Black Sea met with determined resistance. One hundred thousand Christians constructed the defences, only Mussulmans being employed in the lighting line. Strategic railways are being constructed in many directions to assist in the defence of Gallipoli and thereafter of Constantinople.
GOOD ADVANCE AT KRITHIA. Athens. August 12. The Allies’ offensive is concentrated along the whole front of the Krithia sector. On tin* seventh we captured two trenches of great importance. An artillery duel with Achi Paha continues with great activity.
