AMUSEMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. Who is the more popular detective of modern fiction ? Sherlock Holmes or Sexton Blake is open to discussion, hut certain it is that Blake is more daring and more ingenious in his methods than his contempary. For this reason, the film series of Sexton Blake’s exploits should attract even wider interest than the Sherlock Holmes stories visualised last year. Charles Davidson, the well-known London pressman, was engaged to supervise the production of the Sexton Blake stories, and his knowledge of the inner workings of Scotland Yard, gained whilst doing police rounds on the various newspapers, could have no better outlet for practical use than in this series. The first story is “Ihe Mystery of the Diamond Belt,” in which Blake, his assistant Tinker, and his bloodhound Pedro, are engaged to smash a gang of diamond thieves and to locate the £IO,OOO jewel belt they had stolen. The story is cleverly worked out and is a masterpiece of cinematography. ‘‘The Mystery of the Diamond Belt” will be the star film with to-night’s change of programme at H.M. Theatre. A capital programme supports the star film, including Keystone’s latest comedy, “The Plumber,” and the popular Wat Gazette.
