A SOLDIER’S DEATH.
War iu its sadness and reality is brought a trifle closer to us all to-day in the death of a gallant soldier and a good citizen, and the first and foremost of the contingent of fine fellows Stratford has sent to help our Empire’s cause against the hateful pariah of nations. “Killed in action” : so ( the message regarding the death ol Lieutenant-Colonel W. (i. reads. That in itself will lie at least some consolation to those he leaves behind. With his face to the foe, “in action.” Colouel Malone has fallen. It was only a day or so ago that lie was “mentioned in despatches,” and had he gone safely through the war, it is certain that high Imperial military rank would have been bis. Stratford will truly mourn a beaVe soldier’s death.
