The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER TUESDAY, AUGUST 10, 1915. THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY QUESTION.

It is'certainly refreshing to note Uiat the Borough Council lias at last readied the stage of making a definite ami reasonable proposal, to the Electrical Supply Company for the. acquirement of its plant and premises as a goingconcern, subject, of course, to the sanction of the ratepayers. The resolution carried provides' for the taking over of the plant and goodwill at valuation by approved valuers appointed by either side, and if both sides arc honestly desirous of arriving at a" amicable conclusion, we do not see that there could be a more fair suggestion. For years the future of Stratford electrical service, its; control and rights and privileges of the Company (which has in '"P* l °f many difficulties* carried on its business even better than could have been expected), have been bones of contention, and the cause of disputation and bitterness, and the town as a whole will be unutterably glad if we may now find a peaceful solution of the i vexed question. Undoubtedly the , Company has rights and we feel sure,j that the burgesses do not wish to, purloin those rights. Equally «o the Borough Council as trustees of the people .must look at the matter from h business standpoint, and deal with it as h business proposition, II theCouncil can do this and effect a reasonable settlement, it will deserve the' thanks of the community, ft is to ( be sincerely hoped that the Electrical j Supply Company will receive the of-1 ler now made in the right spirit.
