When the Council met at 2.30 p.in.. after proceedings were formally opened, it adjourned until 3.15 P-"i. to enable members to hear the speeches made by the Prime Minister and. the Leader of the Opposition in reference to the formation of a National Government.

On resuming, the War Pensions Bill. Crimes Act Amendment Bill. and Civil List Amendment Bill were received from the House of Representatives. ami passed through all stages. The Births and , Deaths Registration Amendment Bill was also read a third time and passed. Hon. Sir Francis Bell moved the resolution expressing the determination to continue the war to a victorious Conclusion.

Hon. Sir William Hall-Jones seconded the motion, which was carried, |the members rising and singing the National Anthem. Hon. Sir F. D. Bell then moved, that the Council -adjourn until August 19, and the Council rose at 1 o’clock, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. In the House this afternoon, the Civil List Amendment Rill was introduced by Governor’s message. | Mr Masscv, in moving the second reading, said that the Bill required little explanation, it provided tor the appointment of additions paid Ministers, making ten in num,her and increasing the amount appropriated to salaries from £9700 to £11,700. I The Bill was treated as a mattei of urgency, and passed all its stages without discussion. Permission was given to committees to sit to-morrow, and at 3.L P- nlthe House adjourned till 7.30 p.m. on August 19.
