WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
' MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly mooting of the Mhangotnoiuona County Council on 'lnesday the following members were present: —Councillors A. Meredith (chairman), W. A. MeCulchan, M. Goever, N. 1C Cleland, E. B. Boberlon, and A. Coyne.
Mr J. McCluggage was granted two months’ leave of absence. It was resolved, on the motion ot Ci's. ICoyne and MeCutchan, that the Council agree to the transfer of King and Baker’s lease to A. Me.Meekan under the existing terms and conditions, upon the written consent ot King and Baker being forthcoming. The request of the Manawatn Coiuijty Council he amending the telephone !regulations was agreed to, the Council in its covering letter io the memmi j for’the district to ask that the Whan(gamomona I’ost Office be opened between 7 and 8 p.m.
I On the motion of Crs. MeCutchan land Cleland, it was decided to requoit !the Postmaster-General to arrange that the mail arriving lor lahora. etc.,' at Whaugamivmona at night be then sorted and sent up the valley by the first train next morning, instead lof being kept till the afternoon train. In reply to the Mayor of Wellington, re the War Belief 1* uuds, it was decided that the Council approve of the scheme and would bo willing to do anything in its power to assist. For the position of surfaceman ol Tahora riding, Cr Cronin was appointed. Regarding the petition from ratepayers for a separate rate over the township of Whangainomona, it was decided, on the motion of Crs. Meredith and Coyne, that a special order be instituted, striking a separate rate of Ikl in, the £ over the unimproved value of the Whangamomona township.
Resolved on the motion of Crs. McCutthaii and Geeveii, that a special i-ate of 2\ d in the £ over the Central ’Hiding (Ohura Road), loan of £2500 special rating area be struck by way of special resolution. The action of the sub-committee in accepting G. Wilson’s tender at £335 Is ior the Rimuputa Road contract was confirmed. It was decided that all by-roads be open for bridle traffic and that the main and metalled roads be open toi dray traffic, the engineer to use his discretion in considering in either case special cases that might require further clearing: The action of Councillors who had put on labour in case of emergency owing to slips and wash-outs, was confirmed.
Applications are to he called toi foreman for the Makahu end of the Strathmore Riding. Surfaceman Sefton was empowered to impound straying stock on all Countv roads under his care. All
other foremen are to be similarly empowered if they are willing to act. The Engineer was empowered to | have the boulders on Marco Hoad ,broken and spread as soon as labour I can be procured. I Application is to lie made for a £7OO I loan for the second bridge on the iOhura Hoad in the township. I It was resolved that the clerk renew the application for the £ISOO loan for Putikitnna.
Accounts amounting to £6Ol 10s were passed for payment.
