A Press Association message I'min Hamilton states that a boxing match took place between Mitchell (present holder) v. Murphy (cx-champion) for the middle-weight chanipionship of New Zealand. Both men were remark, ably fresh, and at the commencement of the final bout, the referee stepped into the line and spoke to tin* combatants. As a result, the final lien u liter was very willing, the sound ot the gong saving Murphy from a knock-out. The referee announced “no contest.” remarking that neither men were trying.
