The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER TUESDAY, JULY 27, 1915. A PROSPEROUS YEAR.

Possibly no more important annual function*, so far as the welfare and prosperity of Stratford and its immediate district is concerned, take place in our midst each year than the annual meeting of shareholders in the Midhirst and Stratford Co-operative Dairy Companies: These fixtures were both held yesterday and the record of the year's work each presented is one to ho proud of. It is also a very remarkable fact that though the year has been one of hitter warfare for the Empire the eheos ( > and hutter-makers of these southern lands have been enabled to send their produce to the world's greatest market—Londonwithout let or hindrance, and that they have received in return a record price for their output. Surely it is a great lesson of what the Navy means to the Empire, and for all the oversea Dominions owe the Motherland no aid we can render in her time of need could lie too generous. In New Zealand the spirit of the people has, in common with that ol our kinsmen in Australia and Canada, responded nobly to the call, and like the patriots in England all are determined to make any sacrifice to help bring about the victorious end which must he the outcome of the great task the Allies have entered upon in the common sacred cause, and to maintain the ideals ol' justice and freedom. In congratulating our Dairy Companies on their line year's work it is not out of place to again emphasise the need for every individual's work, so that we may retain our nationhood under a, beneficent rule which makes possible such prosperity as the year has shown.
