A shocking case of cruelty to a horse came under the notice ot the police magistrate at Brisbane tins month. Bertie Bichard Howard Osborne, a grocer’s assistant, pleaded guilty to setting tire to a horse. Up* prosecuting counsel stated that the horse was burnt terribly about the legs and body, ami had been beaten, evidently with a sharp stick. Ihe animal had been under the care of a veterinary surgeon for a fortnight, and would be unable to work lor another month. Defendant said that the horse had been jibbing, and in a tit of temper he burnt it with brown, paper. The magistrate said that defendant’s action was worthy ot the Huns. He sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment, with hard labor,, and ordered him to pay compensation to the'owner of the horse. ,
