RELATIONS WITH GERMANY. United Press Association. Washington, July ,21. The Cabinet has considered the reply to the German Note, and has decided to reaffirm the principles outlined in the earlier Notes, taking the view that Germany has not answered the question of the violation of international law. The Cabinet is dually drafting the reply, when the facts regarding the Ordinal are available. The situation is regarded by the Cabinet as very serious. The Note will he drastically phrased, and a strong elfort made to terminate the controversy. ROOSEVELTS CRITICISM. New York. July 21. Mr Roosevelt, writing to the Metropolitan Magazine, criticises his fellowcountrymen who, at the present crisis, would sacrifice national honor by their avoidance of national duty, which is preparedness for war, and he anathematises those American women who were recently in Europe crying for peace, without justice or redress, simultaneously with the slaughtering of American women and children on the high seas. He declares that professional peace enthusiasts in America are afraid of the German vote, and are terrorised and cowed by the ruthlessness of German militarism, whose disregard of the rights of others demand an American protest and further action, if necessary. Five thousand workers of the Standard Oil Works at Bayonne who were loading vessels have struck, thereby delaying export. Six hundred men have struck, tying up the plant of the Remington Arms Com pa uy.
Latest reports state that the Bridgeport strike is a fisaco. Machinists are still working, and have been promised eight hours and an extra dollar a day. Labor leaders are chagrined, and declare that the men are locked in. Machinists in sub-contracting factories also continue to work.
