CAPTURE OF AN AEROPLANE. United Press Association, j (Received 8.55 a.m.) Rome, July 18. One of yesterday’s aeroplanes at Bari on its way home was hit by a rifle and fell into the sea near Marietta. It was captured, together with two officers.

: The Pope instructed the nuncio at Vienna, to protest against the bombardment of Bari. (Bari, seaport of southern Italy, on the Adriatic, 69 miles north-west of Brindisi, with a population of PO.OOO, has an interesting history. It is well fortified, and on the sea side is defended hy strong walls. Its principal buildings are a citadel (dating from the 11th century), a cathedral, the priory of St. Nicolo, where the body of that Saint is preserved, and which is supposed to work miracles, and a college of nobles. On the fall of the Roman Empire this town, the ancient Barium, first passed into the hands of the Saracens, and afterwards into the Mormons. It has thrice been taken 'and destroyed, and as often rebuilt on the same site.)
