At the Farmers’ Conference, Mr Heehy said the political machinery had degraded polities, and there was no semblance of democracy, the machine denying the right of a .substantial majority to political representation. The only way to overcome this was by proportional representation. The meeting decided on the following plunks of their platform: Fleetoral reform, national insurance, decentralisation. a vigorous policy of immigration, an extension of railways, closer settlement, and an extension of the definition of Federal powers.
