Per Press Association,

Wellington, July 44

Representatives of the Country Racing Clubs in Xew Zealand interviewed Mr Berries to-day to protest against the high taxation, on tlie country chibsi Objection was tal>on to the special taxation of 2| per, cent, on the gross takings at the .meetings,, including the totalisator receipts, irrespective of whether the clubs made any profit or a loss. Tlie clubs did not mind the totalisator tax, but felt that the 2$ per cent, imposed, on tlie gross receipt* was unjust. They asked that the tax should only lie made on the profits.

Mr Berries said he agreed that tlie country clubs should be encouraged, and* promised to place the deputation’s views before Cabinet.
