STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD.
The monthly (Meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held this morning at the secretary’s office. There were present; Messrs .1, McAllister (in, the chair), C. D. Sole, R. McK. Morison, A. Meredith, E. Mine, J. Christoflel, E. Walter and tlxe secretary (Mr T. H. Penn). It was resolved on the motion of Mr Morison, that the secretary write to the Minister of Defence pointing out the lack of attention on the part of the Department to a local trooper, and, requesting an explanation. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Taranaki Board stating that the Stratford Board was not liable for its proportion of £l5O required for the hospital until the old hospital ready to receive the incurables.
A letter was received from the Public Health Department stating that the opinion of the Crown Law Office had been obtained in connection with the liability of relatives for lees and charges. The Law Office was of opinion that Boards were protected sufficiently.
A long baler from the Health Department detailing < a comprehensive scheme \t« assist Boards m their book-keeping was read by the secretary. The Department undertook to send auditors around the country, and these men would inspect the Board’s books, offer suggestions as to the keeping of the books, and supply each , board wi tl( statistics which would be valuable. All this for £lO per annum charge on each board.—The letter was, received, but the suggested scheme was declined.
The Board’s solicitor reported that £57 18s 6d had been collected during the month. Members were of opinion that this i was l very satisfactory and encouraging.
The Medical Superintendent reported that during the month 19 cases were admitted to the hospital, 15 were, one patient died. There were sixteen patients in the Hospital at the end of the month. There were two cases isolated. Two operations under anaesthetic ■- had been performed. <The Matron reported that there was room on the.staff for a probationer. The grounds around the isolation ward required attention. Ihe staff wore very busy at present. The Sanitary Inspector reported that three, cases of scarlet fever were reported in the Borough. Of these two were isolated at the Hospital and one at home. One case of scarlet fever, five of chicken-pox, and one or phthisis had been reported .in the County of Stratford. All necessary precautions had been taken in every case.
The resignation of the gardener (Mr G. Officer) was received, and appreciation of his services placed on record. A new gardener was appointed at a salary of £2 JOs p6f week.
The question of appointing a probationer was left in the hands ol the Visiting Committee. The Grounds Committee reported there was considerable work to bo done and various improvements were being put in hand. The question of planting trees on each side of the Board’s sections near Opnnakc Road was discussed and approved. The receipts for the last three months were £757 3s 10d, and the expenditure £703 11s 7d, leaving a balance on. the three months working of £53, 12s 3d.
