RECRUITING IN VICTORIA. United Press Association. Melbourne, July 11. The Victorian recruiting total for the week was 1382. HOSPITAL ACCOMMODATION. Melbourne, July 12. Mr Pearce announced that the hospital accommodation for the wounded at present amounts to 4100 beds, while suitable places for extensions can accommodate about double that number. THE MAKING OF MUNITIONS. Sir George Reid cables advising caution in the production of shells, as the slightest difference in any part would make them worse than useless. The second report of the munitions committee suggests a Government option to acquire shell-making machinery after the demand has subsided, and the report suggests that the Colonial Ammunition Coy erect a shell factory on these lines. It advises a tube fusealso that a machine-gun factory bo erected afterwards and incorporated in the Government arsenal. It urges the manufacture of gun cordite, and a Government cordite factory' for the manufacture in Australia of high explosives.

The Belgian Consul states that, including contributions from Queensland and New Zealand, he has received £25(5, 9(51 to date. He states he has £222,(587 in hand, and is paying out at the rate of thirty thousand per month. appeal to cricketers. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Sydney, July 13. The New South Wales Cricket Association is issuing an appeal to cricketers to enlist immediately. DISLOYAL JUSTICES. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Sydney, July 13. Mr Black states that a dozen German Justices of the Peace have been struck off the roll lor disloyalty. Naturalised loyal Germans arc not being interfered with. BRISK RECRUITING. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Melbourne, July 13. No less than 8121 recruits offered in Victoria as a result of the first week’s campaign.

Private advices from Australians interned at Ruhlehen state that many Australians and New Zealanders are there. An Australasian Association has been formed, King, of Napier, as President. The Victorian Football Association is Curtailing its season by five weeks to assist recruiting.
