The first Xew Zealander who was wounded in action has returned . to Wellington in the person of stoker I’’. Sawkins, of H.M.S. Pyramus, vho arrived in the Corinthic yesterday. He joined that vessel at Capetown. He is suffering from a wound in th° neck, caused hy a piece of slirapnel shell. He had joined the* British land forces in East Africa, and was wounded while skirmishing. As a ivsuit of the sea voyage; Sawkins now looks the picture of health. -

A dramatic incident marked his ie* turn. His first inquiry at the wharf was for his wife and her baby, which was horn while he was away on active 'service. The answer he received was, ‘‘‘At the Town Hall.” Hie baby was 'the central figure in a coronation ceremony, having been elected “Baby Queen,” and while her father was he- . V* ing welcomed at the snip’s side by a few friends who Knew of his return the “Baby Queen” was receiving homage on the Town Hall step. I
