TRENTHAM CAMP.

THE ROYAL COMMISSION.

Per Pbeßß association. Wellington, .July 7. The F.rime Minister announced tonight that the following gentlemen had been appointed members of the lio.val Commission of Inquiry which is to'conduct BQ investigation with regard to the sickness and general conduct of affairs at Trentham camp: Mr Justice Honking, Mr W. Ferguson (engineer to the Wellington Gas Company), and Dr. A. A. Martin, of Palmerston North (recently returned irom the front). The commission is to inquire into the administration of the Tre.ntham camp during ;the present war s\> I«r as such administration relates in any way to the health, comfort, feeding, clothing, treatment, and accommodation of the troop*, and in particular to inquire into the- following matters: (1) The extent,-nature and causes ol sickness among the .troops; i2) the extent and causes of mortality among the troops; (3) whether due care- and efficient measures have been at *ili times taken to prevent or minimise such sickness or mortality; (-1) whether an efficient system for the treatment of the sick has at all tinies existed ill connection with the cam]); (o) whether an efficient system of medical inspection of the troops has at all times existed; (6) whether in any cases the sick have been neglected or improperly treated- (7) whether undue delay has in any cases taken pltace m the 'removal of the sick from the camp to a hospital; (8) whether proper notification has at all times been made to the relatives of the sick and sufficient facilities given to those relatives, to afford assistance or comfort; (9) whether an efficient system oi drainage, water supply and sanitation has at all times existed in respect of the camp; (10) whether the camri is suitably situated, equipped and .arranged for the purpose for which it .is used; (11) whether sufficient sanitary or other reasons exist for the removal of the camp from its present situation; (12) whether the food supplied! to the troops has been at all times sufficient and of good quality, and properly prepared and served; (13) whether the clothing supplied to the troops has been at all times of proper quality and sufficient in amount; 114) whether the tents, huts and other accommodation for the troops have at all times been sufficient, suitable and proper for the purpose; (15) whether in any respect the troops have been at any time exposed to undue and preventable hardships or discomforts; (16) whether due care and competence have at all times been shown by the medical and other officers charged with the administration of any of the matters aforesaid.

STRIKING CAMP. "The Government has decided to move' Trentham camp," said the Prime Minister, after the conclusion of a caucus of the Government Party held to-night. "A commencement will jbe made first thing to-morrow morning. The camp is going to be divided, but I cannot say yet where the new camps will be." The Prime Minister added that the decision of the Government in this matter had been come to after the receipt of the report of a committee of experts (military and medical), who had been asked to investigate the situation. The committee had recommended the Government to move the camp, and the recommendation was going to be given effect to at once.

ANOTHER DEATH. Albert Clark, a member of the forces camped at Trentham, died there this morning. He haii been suffering from measles, complications following.
