FIGHTING IN A FOG.
\ DESPERATE BATTLE FOR DAYS.

The Chronicle's Turin correspondent states that a desperate battle raged on the Laverado heights in the Tyrol from the Ist to the sth. It began in a blizzard and continued in bitterly cold weather. Then a fog came on, and it was so dense that the searchlights Were unable to penetrate it, and the soldiers on both ,side.s grappled with their comrades among the rocks. Two of the Austrians batteries engaged in a fierce duel, and the Austrians evacuated the positions before the fog lifted.
Some of the Austrians wear shields on their backs and breasts, and also carry steel screens with peep-holes.
