TERRIFIC FIGHTING. ITALIANS ON THE ADVANCE. United Press Association'. Homo. July 7. Terri lie fighting In going on on t lie Carso plateau, and is developing favoralily for the Italians, who advanced six miles from the margin of the tableland- towards the Vipacco Vallev where the enemy, in considerable
force, occupy three successive parallel positions along rows of high hills on a front of three miles. The debatable ground, however, extends backwards twenty miles. The whole region abounds with wonderful grottos, insidious tarns, and spongy subsoil, and this makes the district a vast inland sea with islands made by rocks and mountains. The Italian advance was assisted by an admirable airship fleet and the presence of King Emanuel. The battle has reached its height. The Italians captured a battery and took GOO prisoners.

A Vienna official report says: Fightling in the Godiza district developed yesterday into a great battle, as a resxdt of an attack by the Third Italian Army, including four army corps, which advanced under the protection of formidable artillery fire, against our front from the bridgehead at Gorizia to the sea. The attack was completely repulsed .the enemy suffering terrible losses.
PRISONERS SENT HOME.

Six thousand Italians who were captured in Galicia have been sent to Italy.
ENEMY COUNCIL OF WAR. (Received 9.5 a.m.) Home, July 7. The Archduke Eugene presided at a Council of War at Innsbruck, when the German and Austrian generals bitterly debated the situation, and three Austrian generals on the Italian frontier were relieved of their command.

A communique states: One of the most common Austrian tricks at Isonzo is for parties of men to advance to positions and raise their hands, and then suddenly fall on their faces and unmask dense lines of sharpshooters.
REPUBLIC OF SAN MARINO LENDS ITS AID. (Received 9.35 a.m.) Rome, July 7. All San Marino’s army comprising twelve thousand, except two, are figlst’ing alongside the Italians. PROTECTING VENICE. (Received 10.55 a.m.) Rome, July 7. A squadron of hydroplanes, manned by French naval airmen under the command of Lieutenant Coiineau. is stationed at Venice to protect the city and also for reconnoitring the Austrian fleet movements. The Government is hastening the construction oi numerous further hydroplanes.
The captain and engineer of the German steamer Lemos, interned at \ enice, have been sentenced to ton years’ imprisonment for spying and at night signalling information to the Austrian Heet.
