SITUATION SATISFACTORY DISTURBANCES SUPPRESSED. GENERAL FAITH IN ALLIES’ SUCCESS. United Press Association. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Simla, July 7. The situation in India of recent months is satisfactory. Returning immigrants say Ghada’s party attempted to create trouble in the Punjanlj, but their leaders were arrested and are now on trial. Several cases under the enactments of the Defence of India Act have had a steadying effect on the situation which is well in hand. An outbreak of dacoity in the Western Punjanb has , been supressed. This rising was due largely to economic causes. An Act has been made affording means of speedy trial in a. number of cases of like character.
At Backarganj District, • Bengal, prices are still high. The Government’s action has relieved the pressure and favourable rains should assist trade, which is reviving, though hampered by high freights. Wild rumours which marked the outbreak of the war are noticeably fewer, and general confidence is felt at the ultimate success of the Allies.
