WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. At the last meeting of the Whangsmomona County Council theie vveie present Crs. A. Meredith (chaiiman), W. McOntchan, A. Covin, T. R. Mounsey, M. Geever, W. R. Cleland, and E. B. Robertou.

CATTLE STRAYING. A deputation consisting of Messrs T. Bradley, T. Aylward, W. Reader, and H. Fawkner, waited on the Council re the cattle-straying nuisance in the township, and requesting the iCouncil to enforce the Pounding Act. It was resolved on the motion of Crs McCutchan ami .Mounsey that the foreman report to the Chairman all cases with lull details for evidential purposes of strange stock and horses rtn County roads in all cases of a second offence, and that in all cases of .the first offence, the foreman give a warning to the offending owners. A summons will be issued for a second offence.

The deputation also requested fl) that owners of vehicles which are kept standing in the streets of the township be instructed to remove same at once; (2) that the bush be felled on the road and reserves in and adjacent to the township; (3) that a railing he placed at both sides of the railway station end of the first bridge in the township; (4) that the footway he improved along Whangamomona road from the Countv offices to the Police Station. On behalf of Mr Rothery, Mr Fawkner asked the Council to metal the new Prospect. road deviation for some length as the old portion of the road now’ closed was metalled. C McCutchan moved, apd Cl- Geever seconded, that as soon as a petition is received from the rutepftyeis ie separate rate from the township, the Engineer put tn hand the works asked for.

It was also resolved on the motion of Crs Coyne and McCutchan, that persons leaving (vehicles in the streets ho notified that as the Council is liable for accidents through such practices, owners are to remove same at once.

It Avas resolved on the motion of Crs Coyne and Meredith, that Mrs Schumacher be informed that whereas Mrs Julian disputes her claim for royalty, the Clerk advise her that if she does not take steps to establish her claim Avithin a month, the Council Avill pay the amount of the disputed royalty, £l7 10s, to Mrs Julian.

C&NERAL. The Engineer was authorised to enstruct an implement shed in wood. The Engineer’s action in transferring surfacemen from Mangarewa to Mangaehu and Kolri roads, and also his I'ecomraendation that the Strathmore foreman he given charge of roads to Makahu was approved.

The Engineer l was empowered to give effect to his recommendations re heavy traffic, and notice of the by-law being in operation is to he advertised.

J)r. Hitchcock was granted an extension of his Agreement re use of the Council paddock ns a horse paddock. It was resolved that the Chairman and Clerk execute debenture No. 1 in re the township loan of £4OO, and that the seal of the Cnncil he affixed thereto.

Tlw> Clerk was authorised to sue for all arrears and outstanding rates.

Application is to he made to the Public Works Department for the whole of the balance of the grant ’available for work on the Brewer Koad (Strathmore to Murcott’s Road) and the Engineer will prepare plans and specifications lor the road and hridgework, and arrange details upon receipt ol advice Ironi the Depaiti ment.
