Three thousand shells have fallen on Arras during the last few days. Several soldiers and civilians were killed.
HUNDREDS OF GERMAN GUNS.

The Germans are massing big gnus —not in tens, but in hundreds—in Flanders, planning to concentrate the chief fire at a selected point on the Allies’ left. The Germans hope that, if successful, hordes of infantry will dash through the breach. The guns will include some new 15-inch guns, which will not need concrete emplacements.

The Figaro says the Pope in an interview with the Director of the Revue Hebdomadare, said everyone ,wa» aware of Germany’s crimes and blamed them, but one could not be more precise ki reprobation Inasmuch as the necessary details are absent. “I condemn,” he said, “to the uttermost the martyrdom of the unfortunate Belgian priests and the numerous horrors that are coming to hght f am awaiting an opportunity to show my sympathy with the sufferers. I love not merely Catholic France but France, pure and simple.”
ENEMY’S OFFENSIVE REPULSED

North of Arras the enemy attacked last night in massed formation our positions from road Angres-Ahlam to north of the route Aix Iloulettii-Sou-ehesc. Our assailants were repulsed by enfilading fire and mitralleuses, losing heavily. On the front at 'La Saye, the Germans, after violent bombardment towards‘midnight, tried to attack the French trenches, but (north of Arganeville our , enfilading ■fire did hot permit the assault to debouch.
