TRENTHAM CAMP.

INSPECTION BY THE MINISTER

DEATH OF A TROOPER. Pisa }'»>:«(> Association. Wellington, July '2. , T«-day the Minister of Defence (the Hon James Allen) paid a visit to the Trentham camp in company with Messrs C. J. Parr, M.P., and J. A. |Young, M.P. The Minister made a (thorough inspection of the camp, and 'on his return he had something to say to your correspondent. "1 asked man after man if he had any grievances," said Mr Allen. "J went I through the racecourse kiosk, which !i s being used as a hospital, i saw the sick parade and a mess parade, I and I wont through some of the huts and tents. I made a point of asking 'the men if they had any grievances, and the only thing any one of them asked for was a second pair of boote—of regulation boots. They had not all got a second pair. T inquired why they did not use their own boots, and they replied that those boots were not strong enough. I understand enough boots will be available next week, to provide every man with a second pair." 1 The Minister mentioned that the number of measles cases reported yesterday was not large. Most of the men on the sick parade were suffering from colds and influenza, the sort of | troubles which the ordinary civilian' 'would cure with a couple of days in bed. The majority of the men would be fit again quickly. The supply of .medical men seemed to be quie sufficient, but some additional doctors {were going into camp shortly. ! Trooper J. H. Pollard, who had been removed from Trentham Camp to the measles hospital at Bernhampore 'died at the hospital'to-day. The deceased was twenty-nine years of age 'and resided at Sydenham, Christchurch. Since the beginning of the present week seven men from the camp have died in hospital in Wellington. ,
