The vital statistics for the month of June for Stratford were as follows; —Births 22; Deaths 3j Marriages «.

The quarterly meeting of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Midhirst, will be held oh Monday evening at S o'clock.

The committee appointed by the Council of Education to consider the question of establishing a secondary school at Stratford recommended that subject to compliance with section .'IS of the Act, the council be recommended to advise the Minister to establish such a school at Stratford.

Mr Fkhvard Brandscombe's Red Dandies will appear at the Town Hall to-night. The popular company is greater than ever, nine new artists having joined the "Reds." Claude Dampier is as good as ever, and still keeps the audience in the highest state of risibility. Lovers of music, song, dance and first-class clean humour should not miss the performance this evening.

After supper, provided by members of the Hawera Club, tl'.e visitors returned to Stratford per motor lorry, all having thoroughly enjoyed their outing.

The Stratford and Ngaere Card Clubs held a erihbage tournament last evening, Ngaere winning by eight games, the scores being: Ngaere -IS. Stratford 40. The Press Association reports that His Excellency the Governor has received the following cable from Mr Bonar Law: "With reference to my telegram of June 26, the Chancellor of the Exchequer stated in the House of Commons yesterday that while anxious to give residents in the Dominions every opportunity of subscribing to the War Loan, he trusted thev would not

lose sight of the fact that they can do perhaps a greater service to the Empire by lending to their own Governments, and so reducing the calls by those Governments on the resources of the United Kingdom."
