SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
The .Scottish Society at its Inst meeting, made splendid progress with the arrangements for the Concert and Dance to be held on the 20th July in aid of the Wounded Soldiers Fund. About forty persons attended. Mr G. Sangster being in the chair. .Messrs E. Jackson and K. Dunlop reported that as a result of their canvass for gifts for sale by auction, splendid support had been given in town and country. A large amount of live stock has been donated by settlers, and this will be sold at the Stratford saleyards on the day of the concert, while the other donations will be sold during the evening in the hall.
It was decided to hold a Mock Court in connection with the conceit. These functions have proved successful, and should'add greatly to the evening's sport. The musical programme promises to be first-class, as the star performers are to be engaged and the Egmont Club orchestra will also render selections during the evenihg.
An art union is to be held, the prize being a section of land presented by Mr George Hall valued at £2OO. It is one of the best in town, and well situated.J Three gentlemen have promsied £IOO if seven others would donate similar amounts. The.se will probably he forthcoming, and thus £IOOO will lie collected at no cost. The thanks of the meeting were conveyed to these generous gentlemen, wliose liberality is greatly appreciated.
