New York reports that Mr Lansing received a deputation of importers, mostly German-American firms, who complained that £10,000,000 worth of American goods were lying at Rotterdam owing to the refusal of the British navy to permit them to be exported to America. They declared the goods were not contraband, and petitioned the State Department to insist .hat Britain should no 'auger interfere with tiie rights of Americans to cany on legitimate trade with Germany through, neutrals. Mr Lansing hoped it would he possible to remedy ihe evils.
