Mr Asquith,., at a crowded meeting of city rneiVAt Guildhall, had an enthusiastic reception. He said the success of the loan as a financial instrument was 1 absfalutely secure. One : -hundred years ago.our ancestors had * sjient eight hundred millions in- vindicating the -freedom of Europe, and we were likely to spend three millions daily for months to come in the'same cause. The daily revenue from taxation is three quarters of a million, hence the urgent necessity for the loan. This was the first great-deruo- . cratic loan.
