TOTAL OF CLOSE ON £IOO,OOO. Pkh Prpw ABmmi ah on. Wellington. June 27. The Queen carnival closed last night, and resulted in the election of Miss K. Doughty, commercial travellers' candidate, who beat Miss MeCorniack, the Trentham soldiers' rep* resentative, after an exciting finish. There were fifteen candidates, and the voting of the leaders was as follows, : —Miss Doughty 1,753,651, Miss McCormick 1.703.475. Miss Senior (Hutt) 986,919. Miss McKegg (Manawatu) 580,611, Miss Palmer Public Service) 085.178, Miss Low (drapers) 579,793, Dr. Platts -Mills (tramways) 557.61 2. Total votes cast for all candidates 7,630,017, representing £63,650. It is expected other from carnival activities will nuke the total £IOO.OOO.
