Doughty, commercial travellers' candidate, who beat Miss MeCorniack, the Trentham soldiers' rep* resentative, after an exciting finish. There were fifteen candidates, and the voting of the leaders was as follows, : —Miss Doughty 1,753,651, Miss McCormick 1.703.475. Miss Senior (Hutt) 986,919. Miss McKegg (Manawatu) 580,611, Miss Palmer Public Service) 085.178, Miss Low (drapers) 579,793, Dr. Platts -Mills (tramways) 557.61 2. Total votes cast for all candidates 7,630,017, representing £63,650. It is expected other from carnival activities will nuke the total £IOO.OOO.
