STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. The Stratford Borough Council field a special meeting last night to dismiss the loan proposals. There were present:—The Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon), Councillors Thompson, Young, Hunter, (Rutherfurd, Stanley, Lawson, Hancock. Davey, and Mills. [ Cr. Thompson moved that in view of the proposed conference with the i Electrical Supply Company, the question of a street improvements loan be held over pending the result of such conference.—Cr. Hunter seconded, i Cr. Rutherfurd moved an amendment that a loan be raised of £IO,OOO, to be allocated as follows: —£5000 for street improvements, £IOOO of which is jto be spent in tar-sealing Broadway between Fenton and Regan Streets, and £IOOO to be spent on footpaths and road surfaces on the streets between Juliet Street on the East and Miranda Street on the West for the whole length of the Borough North and South. Cr. Young seconded. Both the amendment and the motion were lost. The Mayor moved, and Cr. Young seconded, that a street improvements loan of £12,000 be submitted to the ratepayers.—Carried. Cr. Young moved and Cr. Hunter seconded, that a schedule of the proposed works be bunded to tbe OverI seer for an estimate.—Carried.
