NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.
ENTRIES EASILY A RECORD. Preparations lor the big winter event at Palmerston North are now in full swing and the showgrounds and buildings have assumed that air .of bustle which is inseparable from the place at show time. The secretary advises that the entries are a record, being some 225 ahead of last year. To show the expansion of- this show, the present year's entries exceed those ol 1911 by 1(520. ; These figures refer to competitive exhibits only, and do not include the exhibits of machinery and various other details shown on the many stands and stalls. The demand for space under the latter heading has exceeded any previous year, and as a consequence many applicants remain unsatisfied. The committee are faced with the position that much more space is required, notwithstanding the fact that another 1500 square feet has been added recently. The total space available under cover now approximates 55,000 square feet. In addition to the great number of exhibits contained in the buildings, large numbers such as motor exhibitors, now avail themselves of tents, etc. on the grounds, to say nothing of side-shows, which are yearly increasing in number. A feature to be introduced for the first time this year is a fruit-grading and packing competition, which will be held on the second and third days of the show. A new and separate division has also been created for the encouragement of honey producers. The Manawatu Poultry Exhibition has a large increase of entries this year, th( anticipation of which fully justifies the recent extension of the poultry hall by 25 feet; There should be something like 1020 birds \'nr the public to inspect, most of these being the pick of the Dominion's poultry yards. Special attention has been drawn to the grand demonstration by the schools to be given on the first day. A real treat is in store for visitors on tiuit day, as there is to be a physical drill display by some 800 children, a crowd that is just about able to manoeuvre on the oval. The other three days are well provided for in the way of--"outside sports, and. everything points to an extraordinarily successful event.
