Mr Boyce shows that the drink expenditure per head of the population is £-1 6s* *Bd, an increase of 3s 9d, making the increase per head for tho past five years 9s 9d. He attributed this to the wave of prosperity which so greatly enlarged the spreading power, aljd the shorter hours affording workers more spare time. The biggest increases were in the consumption of colonial beer and sparkling wines. He points out the baneful effects of drinking on the war, and earnestly stresses the need of drastic restriction similar to those other countries have adopted.
