The winter campaign in the Carpathians killed 120,000 from consumption. GERMANS REINFORCED. RUSSIANS CROSS GALICIAN FRONTIER AT CZERNOWITZ. (Received 8.25 a.m.) Petrograd, dune 16. Official. —The Germans, being strongly reinforced, resumed the offensive in the Jaroslav region and on the right bank of the San, and after three days’ Hard fighting we yielded ground. On the right banks of the Dubackgow and Wisznia, we successfully counter-attacked. On the left banks of the Lismenica at Stryj we captured twelve hundred prisoners and seven machine guns. The Germans iK t Widateiieff fired after hoisting the Wuite Flag, and we killed all with the bayonet. We made prisoners of 5000 near Xezniow. We withdrew across the frontier in the O.eruowitz region.
OFFICIAL NEWS. THE EASTERN FRONTIER. The High Commissioner reports: — London, June 16 (3.15 p m.) In the Shavli fighting was continued, but there has been no substantial change. On the Narew front on the night of Sunday, the enemy made an unsuccessful attack in tho dilection of the Mishenetz-Vaks region. Several enemy attacks were repulsed north of Przasnysz. In Galicia the Germans brought up new forces. For the first time they were supported by strong artillery, and advanced on Saturday to the Jaroslav district on the right bank of the San. After three days’ desperate fighting the Russians retreated some distance on the bight of the Liubaczewka and AViszuia rivers. At the Dneister on Sunday, to the left of Tisraenica and Stryj, the Russians captured 1200 prisoners, 29 officers, and seven machine guns. On the same da> the Germans attacked in the district south of Zydaczow, and occupied the village of Rozu7.no. At dawn on the following day the Russians re-took the village of Zurawko, capturing a gun and several machine guns. Some Germans who fired after showing the white flag were killed in the subsequent fighting. . On Sunday the enemy continued to attack Nieuszniow with, considerable forces and guns, but the Russians repulsed the attacks and captured 1500 prisoners. Between the Dneister and the Prnth, from Czenowitz, the Russians retired across the State frontier.
