The Press Association' reports that the Cabinet has confirmed the appointmenet of Mr A. E. Low in the position of Clerk of the House of Representatives in succession to Mr- Ottersen, who retired last year.
Mr F. Tyrer (Headmaster) reported at the School Committee meeting on Tuesday evening that classes in English, Latin, Mathematics, Shorthand and Dressmaking are now being hold. An attempt is to be made to form a cookery class on Thursday afternoons.
Mr H. H. Worthington publishes a refutation of statement in circulation that lie is only Manager of Mr W. G. Malone’s Puniwhakau and Huiakama properties, and states that a partnership with Mr Malone has existed for fifteen years.

At the meetipg of the Egmont Club Committee a motion of sympathy with tlie relatives of Edward Dewin’rsfc was passed, a letter to be sent to the relatives. Mr Dewhirst was a member of the Club, and was one of the most popular members.

At next meeting of the Stratford County Council, the Chairman will move that a General rate be struck iu the Comity as follows—North Biding 3d in the £, South Riding 2d in the £, East Riding 3d in the £, West Riding 2;]d in the £. This means that the present rate in these ridings will lie increased by Jd in the £. The Mnngaehn Riding rate remains as it is, viz., 3d in the £.

At the Stratford School Committees meeting on Tuesday, a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Edward Dewhirst and Holger Randrup. The Headmaster (Mr F. Tyrer) paid a tribute to these two round men who had died for their King and their Country. He said that they were the host known of the School’s old hoys, having been part and parcel of the School for vears.
A charge of selling margarine containing coloring matter was preferred by Ernest Middleton, an inspector under the Public Health Act, against Robert Hall in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Defendant was fined £2, with court costs 7s, solicitor’s fee £1 Is, and analyst’s too HE (id. He was also convicted and discharged for selling margarine which was below the standard.
Tiie Eltliain Argus states that yesterday tlie Borough Inspector proceeded against Dr. Paget, of Stratford for driving a motor car along High street on May 18 last at a speed dangerous to the public.—Mr Weir, who appear ed for the Borough Inspector, said there had been a lot of speeding up on this road, mostly by outside motorists, much to the disgust of the Borough Council.—Evidence for the prosecution was given to the effect that defendant was driving at a speed of over 30 miles an hour.—Defendant stated that he was i.o* driving over IS mi’ie- an hour.
