OFFENSIVE IN LORRAINE. FRENCH PRESS TO AVRICOURT. UNTTKn PuKiß AMOOTATION. (Received 8.45 a. m.) V Paris, June 15. Much importance is attached to the fresh French offensive in Lorraine, where the objective is supposed to be Avricourt. Well-informed circles believe that General Joffre is testing the strength of the German forces defending the outer works at Metz. A MONTH OF PROGRESS. BRILLIANT FRENCH ATTACKS. (Received 8.45 a.m.) London, June 15. The latest communique, alter denying the German reports of successes in the Couchez region, adds: We have now for oyer a month in the north and south of Arras and between the Oise and the Aisne continuously progressed, and all attacks succeeded brilliantly. This’ is, not guerilla warfare as the German press states. Our attacks extended over the fronts of brigades and divisions' and resulted in killing two thousand and three thousand Germans in a single day.
