The- death of Lady Harris, wife cf Sir -Matthew Harris, ex-Mayor of Sydney, is reported by cablegram.
Mr J. McLeod, assistant-manager of the Riverdale Dairy Company, has been appointed manager of the Okato Dairy Company, which is erecting three cheese plants.
Mr Ben Forsyth, manager of the Riverdale Dairy Factory at Inaha for eight years; was farewelled and presented with a handsome testimonial on Friday evening.
Dr. A. L: M'Lean, of Sydney, one of Dr. Mawson's Antarctic party, was quietly married in London on April 2L to Miss Maud Yates, the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Yates, of Acton, London. The ceremony was performed at the Acton Baptist Church. \)r. M'Lean, who is the sou of Mr and Mrs Robert M'Lean, of Sydney, is a lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps, attached to the Black Watch.
The relatives of Trooper George Cleary, of Toko, who have received news of his death at the Dardanelles, will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends under the sad circumstances. Mr George Cleary was a popular resident of the district, and took a keen interest in everything pertaining to the welfare of Toko, oeing secretary of the Settlers' Association before his departure. "George" was keen to get to the front from the start of the war, and now he has given the supremo sacrifice in the performance of his duty to King and Empire.
News was received yesterday hyvthe Hon. James Allen of the death of his son, Lieutenant J. H. Allen. The sad news was contained in a cablegram from the War Office, and was to the effect that it was reported from Alexandria that Lieutenant Allen bad been killed in action, and that Lord Kitchener expressed sympathy. Lieutenant Allen was in England when the war broke out and had booked a passage to return to New Zealand, but immediately cancelled it and joined the officers' training corps and was appointed to a lieutenancy in the Worcesters and did coastal duty in England.
