TARANAKI WOOL, , SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES.
MR NEWTON KING'S REPORT. At my sales of the above produce on June Ist, I offered a catalogue of sixbales and 52 sacks of wool, 17.*17 sheepskins, 9 casks, 45 'tins'and 1' box 'of• tallow, 528 hides'and 226 calfskins, to a large attendance of'buyers. The feature of the sale was the very high price realised for crutchings, values being practically on a par with fleece wools. I obtained 12.|d per lb. for sack lots. Sheepskins were in keen demand, and generally advanced Jd to Vd per U). Ox hides showed a decided rise, and cows were firm, well flayed bides showing an advance of Jd to id per II). Tallow again declined Js Ud per cwt.' in sympathy with the decline recorded in London.
On behalf of the Makahu Sports Committee I offered a sheepskin in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund, This was sold and re-sold eight times, the fund benefitting to the extent of £.'W ss. 1 quote:—
